The majority of women in early modern Ireland worked with their families on the land. Between 1500 and 1800, the lives of women were affected by many aspects over which they had little or no control, such as land ownership and tenure, crop failure, economic shifts, war, new laws and regulations made by the state and the churches, new technology, a new language. |
