Property
Serious inequalities for women were exposed in the early 1970s by the Commission for the Status of Women and the Irish Women's Liberation Movement and new laws were introduced.
- From 1976 the owning spouse could no longer sell the family home without the written consent of the other spouse.
- One spouse could obtain an order barring the other spouse from the family home if the welfare or safety of the applicant spouse or of any child so required.
- The ownership of family farms, however, was still over 90% in male hands in 1991.
