The Irish Free State came into existence on 6 December 1922. A bitter Civil War was fought between the new Irish Free State government and those who opposed the Anglo-Irish Treaty. The Cumann na nGaedheal party governed the state from 1923 to 1932. The Fianna Fáil party were in government for most of the years between 1932 and 2000. |
